Usage
Dashboard Widget
Add the Recent Edits widget to your Craft dashboard to see site-wide editing activity. The widget shows:
- User who made the edit (with photo)
- Element name and type
- Whether it was a new creation or an update
- Changed fields
- Timestamp
You can configure the widget to show between 1 and 100 entries (default is 20).
Element Sidebar
Every element edit page automatically gets a sidebar panel showing the 10 most recent edits for that element. This includes:
- Who made each edit
- When the edit occurred
- Which fields were changed
Last Editor Column
Rat adds a Last Editor column to every element index — entry listings, categories, assets, users, and Commerce products included. It shows who made the most recent tracked edit to each element, along with how long ago.
The column is off by default so it never clutters an index unexpectedly. To turn it on, open the index, click the gear/settings icon in the column header row, and enable Last Editor. Your choice is remembered per source.
Sort by Last Editor
Once edits are being tracked, any element index can be sorted by who last touched each element. Open the sort menu at the top of the index and choose Last Editor to group a listing by editor — useful for spotting everything a particular person recently changed, or finding stale content no one has touched.
Sorting works whether or not the Last Editor column is visible, and respects the current site on multi-site installs.
Tracked Element Types
Rat automatically tracks edits to:
- Entries
- Assets
- Globals
- Categories
- Tags
- Users
If Craft Commerce is installed, Rat also tracks:
- Products
- Variants
- Orders
Smart Filtering
Rat automatically excludes noise from your edit log by filtering out:
- Draft saves
- Revision creation
- Propagating saves (multi-site content propagation)
- Bulk resaves (e.g., from
php craft resave/entries)
Log Cleanup
Rat includes a cleanupOldLogs method to remove old logs and manage database size. It is not scheduled automatically — call it from a console command or cron job, passing the number of days to retain (default is 90):
use justinholtweb\rat\Plugin as Rat;
Rat::getInstance()->editTracker->cleanupOldLogs(90);
